Experts to support Airbus Eco-Flyer project. \u00a0There is an exciting local project launched by Neil Scott, to design, build and FLY an electrically powered plane! What? This is basically our own home-grown build a plane project for supporting Bristol as Green Capital UK for 2015. The aim is to design and manufacture a light general aviation aircraft to fly by the end of 2015. The aircraft will be electrically powered considering \u2018green\u2019 life-cycle and designed\/built as a graduate\/apprentice project Some further details and timescales are available on request. When? Airbus intend to have the plane designed, built and flying for December 2015 (ideally) \u2013 so they have one year. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Strut was looking for Royal Aeronautical Society assistance and help from anyone with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) experience or expertise to support their ambitious schedule.<\/p>\n<p>The Bristol Eco-Flyer project has been led by graduates and apprentices at the firm\u2019s plant in Filton, near Bristol.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.southwestbusiness.co.uk\/regions\/bristol\/09062015164101-airbus-unveils-its-next-big-idea----a-two-seater-electric-aircraft-designed-in-bristol\/\">Bristol stages an annual VentureFest,<\/a> showing off its many technological achievements.\u00a0 Eco-Flyer was in good company this year, sharing its display space with Airbus\u2019s more formally recognized green aircraft, the e-Fan.\u00a0 At least two other environmentally-friendly vehicles helped cram the exhibit space, <a href=\"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/power-from-the-people\/\">Geneco\u2019s VW Bug<\/a>, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/cities\/2015\/apr\/27\/bristol-bus-powered-human-poo-smell\">City\u2019s Number 2 bus<\/a>, both fueled by biomethane drawn from the city\u2019s waste treatment plants.\u00a0 Bad puns abound.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_10030\" style=\"width: 538px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/eco-flyer-number-two-bus.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10030\" class=\"size-large wp-image-10030\" src=\"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/eco-flyer-number-two-bus-528x381.jpg\" alt=\"Your face in one of these windows! Number 2 bus (really!) makes its odor free way between Bath and Bristol<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The plane has a purer pedigree, flying on batteries and eventually sunlight with no carbon emissions.
