I did not have any experience flying the VC200 before the flight. Nevertheless, it was extremely easy to control and land from the ground. This is a revolution in the history of helicopters. I thank our fantastic development team, which made this possible.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Air Taxi Technology: Volocopter Demonstrates Remote Controlled Flight\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/PDcpwhhUFAo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The craft\u2019s automatic altitude control, position hold, and landing systems enabled Zosel to maintain height and position, even with turbulence or crosswinds.\u00a0 He landed with simple operation of the altitude control, pressing down to indicate that he wanted to land the craft: the Volocopter isprogrammed to descend and automatically slow as it nears the ground, finally settling to a gentle touchdown.<\/p>\n<p>All flight operations are programmed, in fact, to handle the attitude and direction of flight as taken from the pilot\u2019s joystick.<\/p>\n<p>eVolo reports that as soon as all requirements of the responsible aviation authorities are fulfilled, first manned flights will follow shortly.<\/p>\n<p>Future plans include vehicles of different sizes using the highly adaptable power and control systems developed over the last four years.\u00a0 This will even include an optional pusher propeller in the tail to obtain higher forward speeds, and a serial hybrid system to gain additional endurance and range.\u00a0 With currently available batteries, the craft can stay aloft for about 20 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>All Volocopters will have the advantage of extreme redundancy, the current two-seater having 18 motors, arranged on six branches of three each.\u00a0 Failure of any one motor brings the others into jointly assuming the necessary tasks.\u00a0 The pilot can even relegate control to the aircraft itself by pushing an emergency button.\u00a0 The craft stops in midair, stabilizes, and glides to the ground.\u00a0 If an unlikely extreme fault occurs, a large parachute will bring the Volocopter and its occupants down safely.<\/p>\n<p>Conventional helicopters require complex systems to coordinate blade angles, torque correction and other elements necessary for maneuverability and stability in flight.\u00a0 The Volocopter has 18 identical power systems all with fixed-pitch propellers.\u00a0 Software, rather than hardware, enables precise control, low maintenance, and safety.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The company sums up that the Volocopter:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>is safe.<\/li>\n<li>flies like a helicopter.<\/li>\n<li>is extremely easy to fly.<\/li>\n<li>gets its own aviation class in Germany.<\/li>\n<li>is driven electrically.<\/li>\n<li>draws its energy from batteries or a serial hybrid.<\/li>\n<li>does not generate any noise pollution (Not easy to verify with available video evidence).<\/li>\n<li>is low-maintenance.<\/li>\n<li>causes extremely low operating costs.<\/li>\n<li>flies up to a speed of 100 kilometers per hour (62 mph).<\/li>\n<li>weighs 450 kilograms (990 pounds) with passengers.<\/li>\n<li>is a 2 seater aircraft.<\/li>\n<li>serves as a platform for additional manned and unmanned aircraft.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Addendum:<\/strong> Klaus Burkhard, editor of
