New Dual-Redundant Motor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.acentiss.de\/de\/content\/luftfahrt\">Acentiss is a German engineering and consulting firm <\/a>specializing in medicine, aerodynamics, and recently, the creation of two small electric motors for light aircraft.\u00a0 Located almost symbolically between Robert Koch Strasse (Nobel Prize in Medicine) Max Plank Strasse (Nobel in Physics), and EinsteinStrasse (Nobel in Physics) in Ottobrunn, the company not only provides design services for wind turbines and their components, assistance with process flows for the manufacture of medical equipment and devices, and consultancy services for the automotive and aeronautical industries, but has created components for use on light aircraft and unpiloted aerial systems.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11129\" style=\"width: 538px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11129\" class=\"size-large wp-image-11129\" src=\"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/acentiss-motor-528x405.jpg\" alt=\"Acentiss dual-rotor unit as shown at 2016 Aero Expo at Friedrichshafen\" width=\"528\" height=\"405\" srcset=\"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/acentiss-motor-528x405.jpg 528w, http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/acentiss-motor-300x230.jpg 300w, http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/acentiss-motor.jpg 550w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 528px) 100vw, 528px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-11129\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Acentiss dual-rotor unit as shown at 2016 Aero Expo at Friedrichshafen<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.acentiss.de\/de\/produkte\/produkte-duplexmotor\">Their motors, developed with assistance from Geiger Engineering<\/a>, look a great deal like the HP-25D from that company, often seen flying on PC-Aero aircraft.\u00a0 The two motors, both 218 millimeter (8.6 inches) in diameter, produce a maximum of 32 kilowatts (42.8 horsepower) or 40 kW (53.6 hp).\u00a0 The smaller motor can produce 25 kW (33.5 hp.) continuously at a leisurely 1,950 rpm, and the larger (thicker) motor can generate 32 kW at 2,200 rpm.\u00a0 Both motors run at 58 Volts, meaning a high amperage helps create the torque to turn a propeller at low rpms.\u00a0 Many think low voltages will provide greater safety for operators.<\/p>\n<p>The less powerful motor weighs 8.9 kilograms (19.6 pounds) and the more powerful 11 kilos (24.2 pounds).\u00a0 This light weight, coupled with the weight of the recommended dual motor controllers from Geiger Engineering that weigh only one kilo (2.2 pounds) each<\/p>\n<p>Tandem rotors on both power plants can run independently, the same as those on the Geiger HP-25D, enabling economical flight on one rotor, or a \u201cget-home\u201d mode at half power that will at least stretch the glide in the event of one rotor or controller failing.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11130\" style=\"width: 538px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11130\" class=\"size-large wp-image-11130\" src=\"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/elias-luftfahrt_2-528x176.jpg\" alt=\"Elias, Acentiss' modified Elektra One, showing electric retractable landing gear\" width=\"528\" height=\"176\" srcset=\"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/elias-luftfahrt_2-528x176.jpg 528w, http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/elias-luftfahrt_2-300x100.jpg 300w, http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/elias-luftfahrt_2-768x256.jpg 768w, http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/elias-luftfahrt_2.jpg 1096w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 528px) 100vw, 528px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-11130\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Elias, Acentiss&#8217;
