{"id":11501,"date":"2017-06-27T23:24:56","date_gmt":"2017-06-28T06:24:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/?p=11501"},"modified":"2017-06-27T23:24:56","modified_gmt":"2017-06-28T06:24:56","slug":"airspace-x-mobi-wants-to-take-back-our-lives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/airspace-x-mobi-wants-to-take-back-our-lives\/","title":{"rendered":"Airspace X MOBi Wants to Take Back Our Lives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.airspacex.com\/\">Airspace X<\/a> decries the thought that \u201cTraffic is taking over our lives.\u201d\u00a0 It lists three concerns: the 42 hours urban commuters sit in traffic per year; the 1.9 billion gallons of fuel wasted due to road congestion; and the $1,400 wasted per driver per year due to traffic.\u00a0 Its solution, an electrically-powered four-seat commuter vehicle called MOBI.\u00a0 The e-VTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) machine, introduced at the Uber Elevate Summit on April 27, lays claim to being able to fly its passenger at rates equal to an Uber Black ride.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"AirspaceX electric aircraft transportation\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bzXqJQj4Ajo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/business\/business-news\/some-drivers-see-red-over-uber-black-s-strict-rules-n545621\">According to NBC News,<\/a> Uber Black \u201ctown car\u201d style trips are usually longer than \u201cstandard\u201d rides, in a shortlist of approved vehicles \u2013 the Audi Q7, BMW X5, Cadillac XTS, Porsche Panamera, or any Bentley or Rolls Royce that is \u201cblack on black\u201d \u2013 black exterior with a black leather interior.\u00a0 Riders pay a high premium, though &#8211; $3.55 per mile, compared to the next level, Uber X, at $0.90 per mile.\u00a0 Your editor has experienced two Uber rides in Priuses at much lower prices, but significantly nicer than his daily driver, a 1995 Subaru with 273,000 miles on it.\u00a0 Luxury truly is a comparative thing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.modeldmedia.com\/startupnews\/detroitaircraft072914.aspx\">Airspace X is an outgrowth of Detroit Aircraft Corp.<\/a>\u00a0and is an air mobility company \u201cthat will deliver affordable, on-demand air travel, connecting cities, suburbs, and surrounding airports around the world.\u00a0 Detroit has grown from a company that tried to bring aircraft manufacturing to the city, developed a series of drones for first responders and commercial users, and has now brought forth a different aerial mobility (MOBi) solution.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11503\" style=\"width: 538px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11503\" class=\"size-large wp-image-11503\" src=\"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/airspace-x-mobi-528x433.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"528\" height=\"433\" srcset=\"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/airspace-x-mobi-528x433.jpg 528w, http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/airspace-x-mobi-300x246.jpg 300w, http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/airspace-x-mobi.jpg 748w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 528px) 100vw, 528px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-11503\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Airspace X MOBi allows passengers to remain on the level while pivoting wing and propellers enable VTOL flight<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Jon Rimanelli, founder and CEO of AirspaceX, explains,\u201cWith MOBi, we will deliver a new experience in air transit and point-to-point air mobility. It will be a clean, quiet, stabilized flight experience that is accessible and affordable to the masses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Somewhat like the Airbus Pop.Up!, MOBi consists of three modules: flight, payload, and ground. \u00a0Like Pop.Up!, MOBi\u2019s passengers ride in an unpowered payload module, which can either ride around on a separately powered ground module when fighting it out with city traffic.\u00a0 An electric motor-powered flight module twirls four propellers to allow VTOL flight \u2013 but notice the singular power plant.\u00a0 It will have to be powerful enough to lift the weight of the flight vehicle including the 400 kilogram (880 pound) payload.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11505\" style=\"width: 414px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11505\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11505\" src=\"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/airspace-x-vehicle-diagram.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"404\" height=\"252\" srcset=\"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/airspace-x-vehicle-diagram.jpg 404w, http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/airspace-x-vehicle-diagram-300x187.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 404px) 100vw, 404px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-11505\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Like Airbus Pop,Up!
