{"id":11555,"date":"2017-08-05T19:50:57","date_gmt":"2017-08-06T02:50:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/?p=11555"},"modified":"2017-08-14T08:00:18","modified_gmt":"2017-08-14T15:00:18","slug":"mgm-compro-enjoys-good-news-in-europe-and-at-oshkosh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/mgm-compro-enjoys-good-news-in-europe-and-at-oshkosh\/","title":{"rendered":"MGM Compro Enjoys Good News in Europe and at Oshkosh"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mgm-compro.com\/\">MGM Compro<\/a>\u00a0is a Czech company that seems to have a motor on half of every light electric airplane flying today.\u00a0 Their motors have powered Airbus\u2019s electric Cri-Cri (four 15-kilowatt units), the firm\u2019s\u00a0e-Fan, Ruppert Composite\u2019s Archaeopteryx,\u00a0e-Volo\u2019s\u00a0Volocopter, and any number of\u00a0motorgliders\u00a0and light\u00a0sport\u00a0aircraft buzzing quietly over Europe, and soon, America.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Certification in Europe<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Certification is usually the route to wide acceptance of a new motor, proof that the unit has passed some rigorous tests and is suited for use in aircraft.\u00a0 As Martin Dvorsky, Managing Director for the firm reports: We are really proud to announce that [the] MGM COMPRO complex propulsion unit just obtained [a] CERTIFICATE OF AIRWORTHINESS issued by [the] Slovak Federation of Ultra Light Aircraft. This certificate means that the glider and its system has positively\u00a0passed all the safety and flight tests\u00a0and can be legally operated by LSZ license holder (UL license counterpart).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Note the clever motor and propeller folding and retraction system.\u00a0 This is particularly important on an ultralight sailplane with a narrow center of gravity range.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"GP 14 VELO with MGM COMPRO electric propulsion | MGM COMPRO\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/07TH_VZRvCI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>GP Gliders can now register and sell the GP SE Velo 14 aircraft equipped with the MGM Compro electric propulsion unit.\u00a0 Because of reciprocal agreements with other countries, the airplanes and their power units can also be sold in Australia, the United States of America, and pretty much any country in the world.<\/p>\n<p>The certification required 18 months of testing and paperwork, which included an\u00a0examination of the aircraft and power plant, operating manuals and other things engineers usually want to avoid (written from 34 years\u2019 experience in working with engineers).<\/p>\n<h4><strong>On Display at Oshkosh With a Different Kind of Motorglider<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Brian Carpenter,\u00a0designer\u00a0and builder of the EMG-6\u00a0motorglider, has been testing various entries into the small airplane motor\u00a0arena.\u00a0 He thinks that the MGM Compro REX 30 might just suit his needs.\u00a0 Martin Dvorsky was able to deliver one in time for AirVenture 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Brian was obviously happy with his choice, but as usual, prudent in his approach.\u00a0 Part of this comes from selling an experiment craft with an experimental motor.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12103\" style=\"width: 538px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12103\" class=\"size-large wp-image-12103\" src=\"http:\/\/sustainableskies.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/emg-6-at-oshkosh-528x396.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"528\" height=\"396\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-12103\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">EMG-6 at AirVenture 2017, sporting MGM Compro REX 30 motor behind cockpit<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201dThe whole goal of this is to have a perfectly matched, reliable, electric motor system that can be basically bolted in the aircraft with minimal knowledge about electric power plant systems. We will document the installation and testing of this\u00a0powerplant\u00a0system from day one. \u00a0You [will be] apprised of all of our difficulties as well as successes. These guys have been doing this for quite some time now and are starting to become one of the leaders in the industry.
