C. last week and is flying its Alpha Electro Trainer at the Paris Air Show all this week.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Launching the 801 at UBER Elevate<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Dr. Tine Toma\u017ei\u010d, Pipistrel\u2019s Director of Research &amp; Development, was a keynote speaker at the conference in Washington, D.C. on June 11, where he presented just enough to whet appetites for more on the coming 801 eVTOL design.\u00a0 His final touch \u2013 presenting an ostensibly realistic recording of the 801\u2019s sound, demonstrated how quiet the vehicle will be.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Uber 2019 Tine Tomazic\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bRM0wI5tPq4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s accounted for by the eight fans being tuned to different frequencies, cancelling each other out like the dynamics in noise-cancelling headphones.\u00a0 That\u2019s just one of the design factors in a well-integrated design.\u00a0 Its integrated lift system, embedded in the craft\u2019s wings, help mitigate noise. The specially-shaped fans will operate at relatively low RPMs, another step in reducing noise.\u00a0 Conceptual test vehicles of varying sizes helped refine the noise-control methodology.<\/p>\n<p>Tine calls the new design \u201can aeroplane\u201d because its fixed wing craft will rely on fairly conventional aerodynamics to cruise at 160 knots or more for its battery-powered 50-mile range \u2013 enough to cross Los Angeles in 20 minutes.\u00a0 801\u2019s flight profile will include a 45-second lift phase, transition to high-speed cruise, and a 45-second descent phase, making the most of its qualities as an aeroplane and shortening the battery-draining lift portions of the flight.\u00a0 The transition between lift and cruise phases is the most difficult part of flight, but this has been factored into the interface between the aeroplane\u2019s wings and lift units.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_14026\" style=\"width: 538px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sustainableskies.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Pipistrel-801-cargo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14026\" class=\"size-large wp-image-14026\" src=\"http:\/\/sustainableskies.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Pipistrel-801-cargo-528x297.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"528\" height=\"297\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-14026\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">In his talk, Tine described the baggage, both physical and emotional, we all carry. Nobody should get emotional at having to leave anything behind on the 801<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In a move to reach \u201cthe next level of battery safety,\u201d those batteries will be divided into four different packs of differing types to avoid the same failure modes in all four packs.<\/p>\n<p>Another safety factor, passenger safety, comes from energy-absorbing cabin frames and seats.\u00a0\u00a0 The high wing and overhead fans enable easy and safe access to the cabin.\u00a0 A \u201cbrain\u201d from Honeywell is certifiable and ready for autonomy.\u00a0 That factor will ensure safe passage even on unpiloted trips<\/p>\n<p>Tine says vehicle technology will be available sooner than regulatory approval, with technology ready to fly in commercial service by 2025 or earlier, and regulations following by 2030.\u00a0 Tine added that the 801 will truly be ready when one\u2019s family and friends want to fly on one.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Meanwhile at the Paris Air Show<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Pipistrel shows off their Alpha Electro trainer at the DGAC (the French Civil Aviation Authority) stand every day, and makes demonstration flights every afternoon through the end of this week&#8217;s air show.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_14024\" style=\"width: 538px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sustainableskies.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/pipistrel-paris-air-show-bulc-Boscarol.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14024\" class=\"size-large wp-image-14024\" src=\"http:\/\/sustainableskies.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/pipistrel-paris-air-show-bulc-Boscarol-528x396.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"528\" height=\"396\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-14024\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ivo Boscarol (right) shows the Pipistrel trainer to Mrs. Violeta Bulc, the European Commisioner for Transport.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>On Monday, Pipistrel&#8217;s stand was visited by the President of French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC) Mr. Patrick Gandil and\u00a0Mrs. Violeta Bulc, the European Commissioner for Transport.\u00a0 Pipistrel&#8217;s General Manager\u00a0 <strong>Ivo Boscarol<\/strong>\u00a0 was happy to explain the fine points of the little trainer to such distinguished guests.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/youtu.be\/6JZGlSj1UuU?t=124<\/p>\n<p>On Monday Mr. J\u00e9rome Coornaert wrung the little plane out, doing almost everything the Boeing&#8217;s and Airbus\u2019s did, but ever so much more quietly.\u00a0 Pipistrel highlights this on their web site: \u201cAlpha Electro is totally quiet, the only sound it makes is the whisper of propeller moving through the air.
