We\u2019re always looking for pioneering new ideas \u2013 what would your aircraft be inspired by? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/HOfecb8X06\">https:\/\/t.co\/HOfecb8X06<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/0zXOr5znJv\">pic.twitter.com\/0zXOr5znJv<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Airbus (@Airbus) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Airbus\/status\/1152206442356707334?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 19, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Powered by a hybrid-electric set of four multi-blade propellers, the Bird of Prey, inspired by the \u201cefficient mechanics of a bird,\u201d features a bird-like tail structure and individually-controlled \u201cfeathers\u201d on the tail and wing tips that provide active flight control.<\/p>\n<p>Martin Aston, Senior Manager at Airbus, adds, \u201cOne of the priorities for the entire industry is how to make aviation more sustainable \u2013 making flying cleaner, greener and quieter than ever before. We know from our work on the A350 XWB passenger jet that through biomimicry, nature has some of the best lessons we can learn about design.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The conceptual design initiative is backed by the GREAT Britain campaign (to lure investment in British enterprise), the Royal Aeronautical Society, the Air League, the Institution of Engineering and the Technology and Aerospace Technology Institute.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Slow motion birds in flight\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Lpog3yi6jr0?start=518&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Lee-Ann Ramcherita, Airbus\u2019 technowatch and innovation manager in flight physics <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airbus.com\/newsroom\/news\/en\/2018\/01\/biomimicry--engineering-in-nature-s-style.html\">explains,<\/a> \u201cWe want to see how we can learn from the things around us to potentially resolve the issues we face.
