Forward for Electro.Aero"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Heady Ambitions<\/h4>\n<p>Joshua Portlock, Co-founder, Director and Chief Technology Officer for Electro.Aero in Perth, Australia, has a heady set of ambitions.\u00a0 He and Rob Belaga presented a simple electric vertical takeoff and landing machine, FlyKart, at two different symposia in northern California two years ago, and presented a refined version for the Boeing GoFly competition shortly thereafter.\u00a0 They\u2019ve made it to the finals of the $2,000,000 contest and will be in the February, 2020 flyoff.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, he\u2019s started a flight training program using Pipistrel\u2019s Alpha Electro trainer, and is partnering with an almost bewildering\u00a0 set of industry, government and academic leaders, including Ampaire, Bye Aerospace, E\/S\/Aero, NASA, Pipistrel, University of Western Australia, and Zero Emissions Vehicles Australia.\u00a0 Joshua gives a rundown in his down-under TED Talk.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Electric aeroplanes may be closer than you think. P.<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.electro.aero\/systems\">Electro.Aero\u2019s Light Electric Aviation Propulsion<\/a> consists of a series of trademarked components according to their web site:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Electro.Aero Airlink\u2122: <\/strong>Cross-platform device management software, enabling remote data reporting and hardware performance optimization.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Electro.Aero B.E.M.\u2122:<\/strong> Battery Energy Modules<\/p>\n<p><strong>Electro.Aero Charger\u2122:<\/strong> &#8220;Compact, lightweight superchargers optimized for aircraft use and designed in compliance with the forthcoming SAE standards.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Electro.Aero Drive\u2122:<\/strong> Liquid or air-cooled electronic speed controller.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Electro.Aero EMS\u2122:<\/strong> \u201cElectrical Management System includes integrated touchscreen avionics, digital throttle, pilot interface and telemetry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Electro.Aero Fan\u2122: <\/strong>Carbon fibre electric ducted fan, presumably tuned to individual aircraft use.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Electro.Aero Motor\u2122:<\/strong> Airworthy electric motor in compliance with ASTM standards.<\/p>\n<p>This full range of motors, controllers and accessories emulates the business model of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geigerengineering.de\/avionik\/produkte\">Geiger Engineering in Germany,<\/a> which offers a full line of ultralight electric motors, controllers and support accessories.<\/p>\n<p>In a country <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/thetwo-way\/2018\/01\/05\/575943682\/meanwhile-in-australia-part-of-a-highway-is-literally-melting\">where the highways literally melt from high temperatures,<\/a> electric aircraft make a special kind of sense, not flagging because of thin, hot air.
