{"id":12351,"date":"2020-01-10T00:20:24","date_gmt":"2020-01-10T07:20:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/?p=12351"},"modified":"2020-01-10T00:20:24","modified_gmt":"2020-01-10T07:20:24","slug":"bye-aerospace-expands-its-horizons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/bye-aerospace-expands-its-horizons\/","title":{"rendered":"Bye Aerospace Expands Its Horizons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bye Aerospace has been making inroads into both battery development and flight training with partners on an international scale.<\/p>\n<h4><em>\u00a0<\/em><strong>Alliance with Oxis Energy<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>As reported in July, Bye Aerospace and <a href=\"https:\/\/oxisenergy.com\/\">OXIS Energy<\/a> announced a collaborative program to achieve a 50-to 100-percent increase in flight time from a single charge compared to existing batteries.\u00a0 On its web site, OXIS reveals that it is, \u201c\u2026developing a &lt;30 kWh battery system integrated with an Aviation Battery Management System for a two-seater electric passenger aircraft.\u201d\u00a0 The partnership, \u201c\u2026seeks to achieve a 50% to 100% increase in flight time from a single charge on future Bye Aerospace eAircraft,\u201d with cells exceeding 500 Watt-hours per kilogram at 20 Amp-hour capacity.\u00a0 This will lead to weight reduction and increased flight duration.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Oxis Energy Introduction Video\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/g7mrOluNTis?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Quantum Air, OSM and Bye Form a Synergistic Enterprise<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/flyquantum.com\/\">Quantum Air<\/a> is a short-range carrier with a mission.\u00a0 \u201cOur mission is simple and prevalent throughout our brands.\u00a0 To change the way people travel through cutting-edge aeronautics, made available to the general public in a cleaner, safer, and more exhilarating way than ever before.\u00a0We invite a future where on-demand air travel is as ubiquitous as car service, a future where our aircrafts consume half the fuel but generate twice the excitement, a future where you don\u2019t have to go through 2+ hours of travel, check-in, and security for a 45-minute flight.<\/p>\n<p>Quantum relies on <a href=\"https:\/\/osmaviation.com\/\">OSM Aviation<\/a>, a 6,000 person operation that has trained pilots since 1963, to provide training for its pilots.\u00a0 Both will use eFlyer all-electric aircraft, and have ordered a total of \u201c160 zero-emission aircraft with significantly lower noise pollution and enhanced altitude performance\u201d to be delivered by the end of 2021.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_14842\" style=\"width: 538px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sustainableskies.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/bye-eflyer-4-side-left.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14842\" class=\"size-large wp-image-14842\" src=\"http:\/\/sustainableskies.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/bye-eflyer-4-side-left-528x145.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"528\" height=\"145\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-14842\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">OSM will train future pilots who will fly the Bye eFlyer 4 for Quantum Air.\u00a0 Like the eFlyer 2, it will have Rolls-Royce power<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Tony Thompson, founder and CEO of Quantum, sees the benefits of this approach. \u201cQuantum\u2019s partnership with OSM means that Quantum pilots will fly commercially in essentially the same aircraft in which they trained.\u00a0 Quantum commercial pilots will be intimately familiar with their aircraft, setting a new standard for safety.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Espen H\u00f8iby, CEO of OSM Aviation Group, adds, \u201cAir travel is instrumental in bringing people together both regionally and internationally. Since humans will always have the urge to explore this world, we need to find sustainable solutions to meet that need. \u00a0Therefore, OSM Aviation is excited to join forces with Quantum Air to shape a greener and safer aviation industry in the years to come.\u201d\u00a0 OSM operates training operations in Norway, Sweden and the United States of America.<\/p>\n<p>Scott\u00a0Akina, Quantum\u2019s Vice President and Chief Pilot, agrees, explaining, \u201cI expect to receive pilots from OSM who will already know Quantum\u2019s aircraft systems inside and out, and this will be no small part of the reason why Quantum will run the safest operation in the airline industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Bye Aerospace at NBAA BACE 2019\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ypOiWjhYir4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>George Bye, CEO of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/byeaerospace.com\/about\/\">Bye Aerospace<\/a>, said he is impressed with the collaborative partnership between OSM and Quantum. \u201cElectric aviation, including our eFlyer family of electric aircraft, is the springboard for a movement that we believe will breathe new life into the aviation industry,\u201d he said. \u201cThat includes implementing creative ways to improve effective, economic access to pilot training.
