A. S., \u201cA startup company\u201d making very efficient gas turbines.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.turbotech-aero.com\/\">Turbotech<\/a> \u201chas patented a regenerative, high-temperature heat exchanger that increases the efficiency of low power turbines by a factor of 2\u20133. They achieved this by recycling what would normally be waste heat in the exhaust gases to preheat the air entering the combustor, resulting in less fuel required to generate the same amount of power. Turbotech views the turbogenerator as the \u2018missing link\u201d\u2019 that will enable the future of hybrid-electric aeronautical propulsion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"TURBOTECH Revolutionizes Hybrid-Electric Aircraft with ANSYS Simulation\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hCpU2SrotbY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This regenerative ability reduces the amount of fossil fuel required to make things work \u2013 a valuable criterion while we await better batteries and cheaper fuel cells.\u00a0 The French company makes both a small turboprop engine, looking very much like \u201cA downsized version of the AGT-1500 regenerative gas turbine that has served since the 1980\u2019s as the power plant for the Army\u2019s M1 Abrams main battle tank.\u00a0 Their turbine generator, shown below, would be used as a range extender for small aircraft.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_15315\" style=\"width: 538px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sustainableskies.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/turbotech-generator.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15315\" class=\"size-large wp-image-15315\" src=\"http:\/\/sustainableskies.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/turbotech-generator-528x302.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"528\" height=\"302\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-15315\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Turbotech TG-R55 turbogenerator can run on jet fuel, biofuel, or even hydrogen<\/p><\/div>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aerodefensetech.com\/component\/content\/article\/adt\/features\/articles\/36603\"><em>Aerospace and Defense Technology<\/em>,<\/a> \u201cThe TG-R55 turbogenerator is the first onboard electric genset dedicated to the hybrid-electric aircraft industry.\u201d\u00a0 Consuming a mere\u00a015-22 liters (4 to 6 U.
