{"id":14136,"date":"2021-07-30T16:26:59","date_gmt":"2021-07-30T23:26:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/?p=14136"},"modified":"2021-07-30T16:26:59","modified_gmt":"2021-07-30T23:26:59","slug":"look-up-sky-oshkosh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/look-up-sky-oshkosh\/","title":{"rendered":"Look!\u00a0 Up in the Sky!\u00a0 At Oshkosh"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two different machines, with vastly different purposes and unique looks, are flying electrically above Wittman Field for the worlds\u2019 biggest airshow.\u00a0 The Experimental Aircraft Association\u2019s gathering, having skipped a year because of the pandemic, is back with nearly twice the number of attendees.\u00a0 It\u2019s a crowd ready to be rocked.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Volocopter<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Helena Treeck, head of public relations for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.volocopter.com\/\">Volocopter GmbH<\/a>, is on scene at AirVenture, not only promoting her company\u2019s machines, but granting interviews and reporting herself.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Volocopter Flight Demonstration at EAA AirVenture 2021\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QitplZ6r88A?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>She shares the experience.\u00a0 \u201cThe crewed Volocopter 2X took off at 2:45 PM CST for a 4-minute flight at ~164 feet and a top speed of 18 mph over Wittman Regional Airport as part of EAA\u2019s AirVenture aviation celebration. Event attendees were able to watch the Volocopter 2X fly and take a seat in the VoloCity model at Volocopter\u2019s booth to experience these aircraft. Nicknamed the \u2018World&#8217;s Greatest Aviation Celebration,\u2019 more than 600,000 visitors are expected to come to see pioneering designs in action.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Volocopter\u2019s Volocopter 2X at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2021\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ZpLGsZ3EnWE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Florian Reuter, Volocopter CEO, added his two pfennigs.\u00a0 \u201cVolocopter successfully conducting the first US public manned test flight of an eVTOL company in the US is a milestone for the industry and a reminder that our commercial launch is fast approaching. We can talk about our lead in certification, low noise emissions, and global partnerships all we want, but nothing shows just how close we are to launch UAM as a service as does flying an air taxi in front of crowds and inviting people to sit in our aircraft. Air taxis are coming, and we are working to bring electric flights to cities around the globe in the next two to three years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"21072602 BSP Volo Copter   Helena Treeck   Head of PR\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/F5VUk2ChASY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Helena adds, \u201cIn addition to a full-service solution, Volocopter is the first and only eVTOL developer to hold\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.volocopter.com\/newsroom\/volocopter-first-evtol-startup-to-receive-design-organisation-approval-by-easa\/\">Design Organisation Approval<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.volocopter.com\/newsroom\/volocopter-secures-production-organisation-approval\/\">Production Organization Approval<\/a>\u00a0, two strategic certification approvals from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) to design and produce aircraft in-house. Once certified for commercial launch in Europe, Volocopter is positioned for concurrent type certification approvals in the US from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.volocopter.com\/newsroom\/volocopter-launches-campaign-to-bring-electric-air-taxi-services-to-u-s-cities\/\">Federal Aviation Administration<\/a>\u00a0(FAA), having applied earlier this year, and the civil aviation authority in Singapore (CAAS).\u201d\u00a0 Volocopter has performed over 1,000 test flights, including public flights in Paris (2021), Singapore (2019) Helsinki (2019), and Dubai (2017).<\/p>\n<h4><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Opener Blackfly<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Dan Johnson on his <a href=\"https:\/\/bydanjohnson.com\/\"><em>ByDanJohnson<\/em> web site<\/a>, shares expert opinions about the Oshkosh displays, \u201cTwo industry experts gave me their judgment after viewing the Volocopter and BlackFly demonstrations. Both agreed the Volocopter presented better, performing a true demonstration of its vertical launch then transitioning to forward flight, maneuvering, and then doing a landing. Both also said the BlackFly was much less impressive. \u201cThey just kind of bobbed and floated around, not doing any maneuvering or making a transition to forward flight,\u201d each agreed.
