C. to consolidate relations with law- and opinion makers.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Quietude<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>As a follow-up to its recent demonstration of quietude on Public Broadcasting\u2019s \u201cGreat Electric Airplane Race,\u201d Joby staged a head-to-head test of its near silent operation against other aircraft.\u00a0 Note the perceived noise and the aural signature as each craft passes overhead.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"How Quiet is the Joby Aircraft During Flyover?\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/itP8-3j2UZI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Going the Distance<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One thing prominent in Joby\u2019s on-line presence is their promise that their electric air taxi will be able to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jobyaviation.com\/news\/joby-completes-flight-of-more-than-150-miles\/\"> travel 150 miles on a single charge<\/a> \u2013 including a vertical takeoff and landing.<\/p>\n<p>Flown from the ground by Chief Test Pilot Justin Paines, the machine, \u201c\u2026Took off vertically before transitioning to forward flight and completing 11 laps of a predefined circuit. After more than 1 hour and 17 minutes in the air, the aircraft landed vertically, having covered a total distance of 154.6 statute miles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Flying 150+ Miles with Joby&#039;s Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing Aircraft (eVTOL)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5RpqYuce6Ao?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>JoeBen Bevirt, founder and CEO of Joby, explained the significance of the speed and distance involved.\u00a0 \u201cWe\u2019ve achieved something that many thought impossible with today\u2019s battery technology.\u201d He added, \u201cBy doing so we\u2019ve taken the first step towards making convenient, emissions-free air travel between places like San Francisco and Lake Tahoe, Houston and Austin, or Los Angeles and San Diego an everyday reality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of note, batteries used in the flight were commercially available lithium ion batteries adapted for aerospace use. \u00a0With an NMC (nickel manganese cobalt) cathode and a graphite anode, Joby chose these because they allowed VTOL flight and demonstrated cycle life of \u201cmore than 10,000 of our expected nominal flight cycles.\u201d\u00a0 Jon Wagner, Head of Powertrain and Electronics, formerly worked at Tesla, and notes, \u201cWe\u2019ve been able to create a remarkably efficient aircraft that can make the most of today\u2019s commercially available batteries.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Keeping a High Profile<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Imagine this short flight demonstration with a longer middle part, the vertical lift and descent being only a small part of the total flight and a 150-mile cross-country excursion inserted in between.\u00a0 This type of strategy, along with the aerodynamics of fixed-wing flight in the cruise segment, help enable the range and speed involved.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Complete Flight Profile of Joby\u2019s eVTOL Aircraft\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cuJEf4v05Z0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Networking and Collaborating<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Joby\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jobyaviation.com\/news\/joby-opens-washington-dc-office\/\">newly-announced office in Washington, D. C.<\/a> is going to be different.\u00a0 Visitors will be able to \u201cfly\u201d a state-of-the-art simulator and get a \u201chands-on\u201d experience different from those often reported in D. C. offices.\u00a0 Joby hopes to support the collaborative work it\u2019s engaged in with the military and private industry while furthering approaches to eventual commercial certification of its enterprise.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_16850\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sustainableskies.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/joby-simulator-over-Wash-DC.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16850\" class=\"wp-image-16850\" src=\"http:\/\/sustainableskies.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/joby-simulator-over-Wash-DC-528x377.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"429\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-16850\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Visitors to Joby&#8217;s Washington, D.
