They saw first-hand how our growing teams are working to make <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/electricaviation?src=hashtag_click\">#electricaviation<\/a> a reality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovInslee\">Governor<\/a> Jay Inslee was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/WaStateGov\/\">already aware of the work motor company MagniX<\/a> was doing when he acknowledged the May 28, 2020 flight of a Cessna Grand Caravan.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><em>\u201cThe world\u2019s largest all-electric aircraft took flight yesterday. And it was right here in Moses<\/em> <em>Lake, WA. Congratulations to <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MagniX\"><em>@MagniX<\/em><\/a><em> and all those involved.\u201d\u00a0 <\/em>This referenced the Cessna Grand Caravan powered by a Magnix Magni500 motor.<\/p>\n<p>In somewhat of a media turnabout, the Governor interviewed Roei Ganzarski, CEO of magniX and chairman of Eviation\u2019s board of directors.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Washington Gov. Jay Inslee Tours Facility Building First Ever All-Electric Commuter Plane\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IXtpCJOQQuU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Commenting further on his airport outing, Governor Inslee posted on Facebook.\u00a0 \u201cBig day for the clean energy revolution being led by Washington. At the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/EviationAircraft\/?__cft__%5b0%5d=AZWKNZZROXUz75yHeoRPQvYEYWQ_8agOgFIvUwZA-qSxS3zkoRpe2Xau0wUdx2OFZVrSY6IQFhOBpuv6KL3Un149MVdB5PU5LCUB5-gXROyXVPbw7tKqZBtssTRkEBXjxYUndqe5Z-GeUhXG7-qOZma4&amp;__tn__=kK-R\">Eviation Aircraft<\/a> Company in Arlington I toured the production facility for what will soon be the world\u2019s first commercial all electric airplane, a nine seater. In Maltby I toured the <a href=\"https:\/\/group14.technology\/en\/\">Group 14 company<\/a> which has created a world changing silicon anode battery technology that could increase capacity by 50% in our cars. Clean in the air, clean on the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4><strong>What the Governor and Mayor Saw<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Most impressively, they gazed upon a sleek aerodynamic shape waiting for its motors.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldnet.com\/author\/janice-podsada\/\">Janice Podsada<\/a> of the local <em>Herald Business Journal<\/em>, reported, \u201cIt\u2019s crunch time for Omer Bar-Yohay, CEO and co-founder of Eviation Aircraft, which is developing an all-electric airplane.\u201d\u00a0 As any home-built airplane maker knows, being 90-percent done means there\u2019s 90 percent left to do\u201d\u00a0 The \u201ccrunch\u201d in this case is mating the motors and batteries to the airframe, connecting and testing miles of wires, and performing ground-based reliability tests on every component.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Podsada reports, \u201c\u2019Every system and subsystem of the aircraft from structures to electronic performance and the batteries, the motor \u2014 all are being tested separately and then they\u2019re tested together for functionality,\u2019 said Bar-Yohay, who studied physics at The Hebrew University in Jerusalem.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_17050\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sustainableskies.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/eviation-construction-interior.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-17050\" class=\"wp-image-17050\" src=\"http:\/\/sustainableskies.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/eviation-construction-interior-528x352.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-17050\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">90 percent done, 90 percent to go.\u00a0 Alice being fitted for what will be a luxury interior<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Alice is primarily composite construction weighing a total of 16,500 pounds \u2013 8.200 pounds of which accounted for by two battery packs.\u00a0 Perhaps because of this, Alice was described by Bar-Yohay as a battery with an airplane painted on it.\u00a0 And, as engineers will explain, the airplane lands weighing as much as it does when taking off.\u00a0 Unlike petrol burners, electric airplanes don\u2019t lose the weight of fuel consumed on the journey.\u00a0 That\u2019s one disadvantage \u2013 one perhaps overcome by clever design on aircraft like Alice.<\/p>\n<p>Two crew members and nine passengers will have a nice trip in the 57-foot fuselage, carried aloft on 63-foot span wings, aerodynamically clean without the two wing-tip motors of the original configuration.\u00a0 The 500-mile cruising range will be covered quickly by the plane\u2019s 287 mph speed.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Say hello to Alice, the electric cargo plane\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kM1Kg7aIhkU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>The Herald<\/em> explains, \u201cEviation occupies three hangars at the Arlington Municipal Airport. MagniX is housed in a 40,000 square-foot building in south Everett near Paine Field.\u201d\u00a0 Only 15.8 driving miles separate the two parties, ensuring ease of communication and on-time delivery of components.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Making Schedules<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Getting in the air by the end of the year indicates a little pressure being applied to both manufacturers.\u00a0 DHL Express has expressed a desire for 12 Alices, set up to carry 2,600 pounds of cargo.\u00a0 Cape Air, a regional airline has a purchase option for an undisclosed number of aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>Both carriers will appreciate the operating savings possible with electric aircraft.\u00a0 Bar-Yohay told the Herald, \u201cWe estimate it will cost about $250 to $350 per flight hour to operate. A turboprop with similar performance costs between $1,200 and $2,000 per flight hour.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pat Anderson of Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) told the Herald, \u201c[Electric flight is] greener. It promises lower emissions and lower noise emissions.\u00a0 I just think we have to figure out the battery weight issue, and I think that will simply take some time.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Getting Charged<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Clay Lacy Aviation in Van Nuys, California is<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ainonline.com\/aviation-news\/business-aviation\/2021-09-23\/clay-lacy-aviation-offers-sustainability-case-study\"> taking energy saving and clean aviation fuels seriously<\/a>, switching to things like LED lamps and encouraging the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF).<\/p>\n<p>Eviation announced a partnership with <a href=\"https:\/\/c212.net\/c\/link\/?t=0&amp;l=en&amp;o=3289583-1&amp;h=2423036716&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.claylacy.com%2F&amp;a=Clay+Lacy+Aviation\">Clay Lacy Aviation<\/a> to provide <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/eviation-partners-with-clay-lacy-aviation-for-alice-all-electric-aircraft-charging-stations-301376263.html\">electric charging as part of its Fixed Based Operator (FBO) network of services<\/a>.
