{"id":5669,"date":"2012-05-03T16:20:24","date_gmt":"2012-05-03T23:20:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/?p=5669"},"modified":"2012-05-03T16:21:37","modified_gmt":"2012-05-03T23:21:37","slug":"vimeo-viewing-of-first-ever-electric-aircraft-charging-station","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/vimeo-viewing-of-first-ever-electric-aircraft-charging-station\/","title":{"rendered":"Vimeo Viewing of First Ever Electric Aircraft Charging Station"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Brien Seeley, President of the CAFE Foundation, points us toward a video his son Damon just posted to Vimeo.\u00a0 It depicts part of the 2011 Green Flight Challenge sponsored by Google, for which the Foundation played host.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Seeley explains, \u201cNASA&#8217;s Chief Technologist Joe Parrish refers to the Wright Brothers in the video as Sonoma County Supervisor Mike McGuire and I cut the hose to a gasoline dispenser nozzle.\u201d \u00a0The symbolic hose is then proudly replaced by a very real electric charging station for airplanes, capable of providing a continuous 9,600 Watts to each of 12 aircraft and used to charge the Pipistrel G-4, e-Genius and Embry-Riddle&#8217;s hybrid Stemme during the contest.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"CAFE Electric Aircraft Charging Station\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/41062713?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The video features great in-flight footage of the two pure-electric competitors from the GFC, and makes one wish for the day when private flight is quiet, pollution-free, and inexpensive.
