{"id":5860,"date":"2012-05-24T08:22:35","date_gmt":"2012-05-24T15:22:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/?p=5860"},"modified":"2012-05-25T08:57:17","modified_gmt":"2012-05-25T15:57:17","slug":"the-high-road-to-morocco","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/the-high-road-to-morocco\/","title":{"rendered":"The High Road to Morocco"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Solar Impulse project announced the takeoff of HB-SIA from its Swiss home field at Payerne \u00a0with Andr\u00e9 Borschberg at the controls this morning. \u00a0The 08:24AM (UTC +2) departure will lead to a full day&#8217;s flight, with Solar Impulse landing at Madrid Barajas Airport around 01:00AM (UTC+2) for a minimum 3-day technical stopover.<\/p>\n<p>Weather permitting, the first possible departure for Rabat, with Bertrand Piccard at the controls, will be Monday 28 May. \u00a0This will be his first major outing in the airplane, and a significant one, since he will cross the Mediterranean to Morocco, the first intercontinental flight by a solar-powered aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>The video from Mountain Radio included interviews with both Borschberg and Piccard, whose tastes in music are explored.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Solar Impulse to Africa!\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ugi6DpP1WYE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>As usual, the team has put together an excellent range of ways to follow the flight. There&#8217;s even an app for that. Solar Impulse explains, &#8220;During the Crossing Frontiers Flights, each flight can be tracked live on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.solarimpulse.com\" target=\"_blank\">www.solarimpulse.com<\/a> as well as via <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/solarimpulse\" target=\"_blank\">Twitter<\/a> (for <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/Andreborschberg\" target=\"_blank\">Andr\u00e9<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/bertrandpiccard\" target=\"_blank\">Bertrand<\/a>), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/solarimpulse\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook<\/a> and via the Smartphone app &#8216;Solar Impulse Inventing the Future&#8217;, available free on Appstore and Andro\u00efd Market.
