<a href=\"http:\/\/www.evektor.cz\/en\/airplanes.aspx\">Evektor<\/a>, designer and manufacturer of light sport and general aviation aircraft; and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.duratec.cz\/de\/articles\/24-flying-bike\/\">Duratec<\/a>, a bicycle and bike supplies firm, have consolidated efforts with Dassault Syst\u00e9mes and CAXMIX \u2013 both partners providing software platforms, to make this long-sought dream a reality.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_6065\" style=\"width: 538px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/?attachment_id=6065\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6065\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6065\" class=\"size-large wp-image-6065\" title=\"Flybike  virtual\" src=\"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Flybike-virtual2-528x373.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"528\" height=\"373\" srcset=\"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Flybike-virtual2-528x373.jpg 528w, http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Flybike-virtual2-300x212.jpg 300w, http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Flybike-virtual2.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 528px) 100vw, 528px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-6065\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Early rendering of FBike<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Their so-far virtual reality is the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.designyourdreams.cz\/en\/\">FBike,<\/a> a velocipede with six propellers that can make brief hops off the ground and stabilize itself in all three axes while in flight.\u00a0 First tests of the actual machine are due in August, and it will be seen whether it can jump over traffic and make its way in a third dimension.\u00a0 The makers are doing this as a proof of concept, with no expectation that it will be produced in large numbers.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"flying bike: 3DVIA Composer\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8WRHu1mwr00?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>From the team\u2019s web site, the basic parameters for this flying bike are ambitious, with paired 10 kilowatt motors driving the main, large rotors and single 3.5 kW motors helping stabilize the bike laterally and provide forward thrust.\u00a0 These smaller units will be housed in \u201crevolving consoles.\u201d\u00a0 Although combined power of the listed\u00a0power plants\u00a0adds up to 47 kW (63 horsepower), the web site claims a total performance of 50 kW 67 hp).<\/p>\n<p>Two contra-rotating, 1,300 millimeter (51 inches) main propellers are placed in pairs at the front and rear of the bike and single 650 mm (26 inches) props fan out on either side of the rider.\u00a0 All propellers are surrounded by composite ducts, and various shielding schemes are shown on the project web site.<\/p>\n<p>Controlling these will be the tricky part, just as it was for the designers at e-volo, whose 16-rotor prototype flew earlier this year.\u00a0 Keeping things stable and maneuverable requires delicate manipulation of powered application and nuanced controls.\u00a0 While the e-volo machine used an electronic game joystick, the FBike will use more conventional handlebars to provide control input.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_6070\" style=\"width: 538px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/?attachment_id=6070\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6070\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6070\" class=\"size-large wp-image-6070\" title=\"flybike instruments\" src=\"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/flybike-instruments-528x291.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"528\" height=\"291\" srcset=\"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/flybike-instruments-528x291.jpg 528w, http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/flybike-instruments-300x165.jpg 300w, http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/flybike-instruments.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 528px) 100vw, 528px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-6070\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">FBike&#39;s instrument panel, handlebar controls and what look like differential &quot;throttles&quot;<\/p><\/div>\n<p>50 Amp-hour lithium-polymer batters will provide about three to five minutes of flight time, but up to 30 to 50 minutes of ride time (possibly depending on rider assistance).\u00a0 Maximum speed, not specified as aerial or terrestrial, is 50 km\/hr (31 mph).<\/p>\n<p>The light aluminum frame and stock bike components counter the weight added by motors, batteries and propellers.\u00a0 The bike still weighs in at a hefty 85 kilograms (187 pounds) without a pilot \u2013 too heavy to be licensed as an ultralight in the U.
