Flying from Koksijde, Belgium\u2019s military airport, it clocked 189.87 kilometers per hour\u00a0(117.7 mph)\u00a0over a 15-kilometer straight-line course, a big improvement over its official speed record set on February 27 of this year. It also holds the <a href=\"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/?p=5720\">official altitude and distance record in its class<\/a>.<\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_6902\" style=\"width: 538px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/?attachment_id=6902\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6902\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6902\" class=\"size-large wp-image-6902\" title=\"LSA 5\" src=\"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/LSA-5-528x296.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"528\" height=\"296\" srcset=\"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/LSA-5-528x296.jpg 528w, http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/LSA-5-300x168.jpg 300w, http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/LSA-5.jpg 1366w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 528px) 100vw, 528px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-6902\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jean-Luc Soullier&#39;s MC-30 Luciole with duct tape gleaming in the sun<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Designed by Michel Colomban, one of the engineers for the Concorde, the MC-30 Luciole (Firefly) has a structure weighing only 98 pounds, ideal for adding heavy battery packs as part of its electrification.<\/p>\n<p>Its Lynch-type motor, controller and batteries were supplied by Anne Lavrand at Electravia, and have flown in the MC-30 for over a year. These are similar to the motors used in the MC-15 Cri-Cri that Hugues Duval flew at 175 mph down the main runway at Le Bourget during <a href=\"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/?p=3578\">last year\u2019s Paris Air Show<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 538px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/?attachment_id=6907\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6907\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"LSA 1\" src=\"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/LSA-11-528x296.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"528\" height=\"296\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Near translucent appearance highlights airy structure of MC30<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0Jean-Luc Soullier, the pilot and founder of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lsa-aerotechnics.com\/\">Luxembourg Sp\u00e9cial Aerotechnics<\/a>, shared these pictures with the Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI)\u00a0application and a graph showing the flight\u2019s performance parameters. Once again, this type of record shows what dedicated amateur builders and experimenters can accomplish without vast outlays.
