This is definitely a very important milestone in the development of Panthera. We look forward to the continuation of tests and the first flight soon!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Panthera rollout and engine start\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YRnDb_nvVEg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>With the Lycoming powerplant, Panthera can take four people 1,000 nautical miles (1,150 statute miles while cruising at 200 knots (230 mph) and burning 10 gallons of avgas per hour \u2013 92 passenger miles per gallon.\u00a0 \u00a0While not Green Flight Challenge level fuel economy (Pipistrel\u2019s GFC winning G4 managed 403.5 pmpg), even the gasoline-fueled Panthera is relatively economical compared to competitive general aviation craft that require 16 or 17 gallons per hour for the same performance.<\/p>\n<p>Pipistrel notes that, \u201cThe work will continue on functional ground tests and preparation for first flight, followed by a complete flight test program. \u201c<\/p>\n<p>Tina Tomazic is scheduled to discuss the coming hybrid and pure electric versions of the airplane at the <a href=\"http:\/\/cafefoundation.org\/v2\/pdf_eas\/2013\/EAS.VII.Program.Prelim.pdf\">7<sup>th<\/sup> Annual CAFE Electric Aircraft Symposium<\/a>, April 26<sup>th<\/sup> and 27<sup>th<\/sup>, in Santa Rosa, California.\u00a0\u00a0 He will give a second talk on \u201cThe Ideal Electric Trainer,\u201d showing the range and depth of research and development activities at Pipistrel.<\/p>\n<div id=\"facebook_like\"><iframe src=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=http%3A%2F%2Fcafe.foundation%2Fblog%2Fpanthera-rollout-and-first-engine-start%2F&amp;layout=standard&amp;show_faces=true&amp;width=500&amp;action=like&amp;font=segoe+ui&amp;colorscheme=light&amp;height=80\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none; overflow:hidden; width:500px; height:80px;\" allowTransparency=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On March 28, Pipistrel rolled out its prototype Panthera, a sleek four-seat cruiser destined to be the first production hybrid aircraft and eventually, Pipistrel\u2019s second four-seat electric airplane.
