class=\"wp-caption-text\">RX1E on display at the 10th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition<\/p><\/div>\n<p>China Daily followed its headline with this optimistic kickline, \u201cHuge markets are expected for the versatile, eco-friendly 2-seat RX1E, then reports, \u201cChina will soon put its first domestically developed electric aircraft into mass production, and designers expect a huge market at home and abroad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst\u201d may be a dubious claim, with Tian Yu\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/greenwing.aero\/\">Greenwing International<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/yuneec.com\/\">Yuneec in China<\/a>) e430 having flown five years ago, and having resumed flight testing in the US last year.\u00a0 It may be true in the sense that Yuneec International now only shows drones, action cameras and powered skateboards on its page, with all aviation activities apparently transferred to its operations in California.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_9454\" style=\"width: 483px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cafe.foundation\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/RX1E-E-plane-in-hangar1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9454\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9454\" alt=\"RX1E being assembled by students\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">RX1E being assembled by students<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Designed by members of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.sau.edu.cn\/\">Shenyang Aerospace University<\/a> in Liaoning Province, the airplane is expected to receive its airworthiness certificate from the Civil Aviation Administration of China \u201cbefore the end of this year,\u201d and will enter production in 2015.\u00a0 Yang Fengtian, \u201can academic\u201d at the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of the Aerospace University, is obviously proud of the accomplishment.\u00a0 \u201cThis will be the first electric aircraft to be certified by our civil aviation authority.\u00a0 The success of our plane means China has become a technology leader in this field.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"China&#039;s first electric aircraft shines at flight show\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/n_2ljcx4dCk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In Shenyang, construction has started on a plant that can produce 100 RX1Es each year within three years.\u00a0 \u00a0Whether that rate will be achieved remains a matter for conjecture, with a price of 1 million yuan, or $163,000.\u00a0 This will require the 1,000 sales Yang predicts as a demand from Chinese general aviation, but he sees markets for police patrols, flight training, \u201centertainment,\u201d and mapping surveys.\u00a0 He also sees market possibilities overseas, even though America\u2019s FAA has yet to approve two-seat electric flight.\u00a0 Yang says \u201cmany foreign enterprises have contacted us to express an interest in it.\u201d\u00a0 We can hope that interest equates to action on the part of the different foreign regulatory agencies.<\/p>\n<p>The RX1E has a maximum take-off weight of 480 kilograms (1,056 pounds) and a maximum cruising speed of 160 kilometers per hour (99.2 mph).\u00a0 Able to fly 90 minutes or 230 kilometers (142.6 miles) on a full charge of its 10 kilowatt-hour battery packs, the airplane should provide low-cost flight, with a five yuan ($1.00) fee \u00a0for a 40-minute recharge, with total operational costs at 20 yuan per hour.\u00a0 The video leaves some question as to how many battery packs the aircraft carries, and how long they would need to charge for longer flights, but based on Yuneec\u2019s similar design, at least four packs would probably be needed for a 90-minute flight.<\/p>\n<p>Roland Bosch, an aircraft exhibition organizer from Germany, attended the Zhuhai show to invite Yang and the RX1E to display at a general aviation show back home. \u00a0\u201cThe RX1E\u2019s design and engine are very good.\u00a0 I believe it will be a big success in the global market because it is one of the best electric aircraft to my knowledge,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>During the show, Mr. He Jun, Deputy Director of Liaoning General Aviation Institute and Mr. Tong Jianhui, General Manager of AVICLUB, signed an order for the first of the aircraft, indicating that production will commence on demand from the market.<\/p>\n<p>We hope to report more on this promising design as details become available.<\/p>\n<div
